Accessibility statement for keeleparish.org
This website is run by Keele Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most
recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver) - resize the website in any device or browser and still see all content
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
Our site’s accessibility
We are committed to making keeleparish.org as accessible as possible. In April 2026 we undertook a comprehensive accessibility audit and remediation programme across the entire site, and in May 2026 we completed a further round of improvements bringing the site to full compliance with WCAG 2.2 AA.
What to do if you cannot access parts of this website

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Keele Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This website is fully compliant with the
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard.
What we’ve done to improve accessibility
Following a full audit carried out in April 2026, and a further round of remediation completed in May 2026, we implemented an extensive programme of accessibility improvements across the site, including:
- Colour contrast — All instances of non-compliant text and link colours have been replaced with WCAG 2.2 AA-compliant alternatives throughout, including in page content and sitewide CSS (WCAG 1.4.3)
- Link text — All vague or non-descriptive link labels such as “click here” and “please click here to view” have been replaced with meaningful, descriptive text across the entire site — including approximately
90 entries in the Parish Council Minutes archive, multiple entries in the Accounts and Financial Documents section, and all third-party plugin-generated links (WCAG 2.4.4) - Duplicate and ambiguous links — Duplicate adjacent links, redundant anchor tags and indistinguishable links pointing to the same destination have been resolved or given unique, descriptive titles
(WCAG 2.4.4) - Heading structure — Empty heading tags and incorrectly used heading elements have been removed or corrected across multiple pages to ensure a logical document structure (WCAG 1.3.1)
- Images and alt text — 66 images in the Media Library were identified as missing alternative text and have been updated with meaningful descriptions. Redundant or duplicative title attributes on images
have also been removed (WCAG 1.1.1) - Layout and data tables — Layout tables have been marked with
role="presentation"so that screen readers do not incorrectly interpret them as data tables (WCAG 1.3.1) - Email and keyboard accessibility — Markdown-format email addresses have been converted to proper HTML anchor tags to ensure full keyboard accessibility, and broken mailto links have been repaired
(WCAG 2.1.1) - Link behaviour —
target="_blank"attributes have been removed from email links to prevent unexpected changes of context, and all remaining links that open in a new window now include an explicit
notice to inform users in advance (WCAG 3.2.1) - Text justification — Justified text alignment, which can create uneven spacing that affects readability for users with dyslexia or cognitive disabilities, has been replaced with left-aligned text sitewide
(WCAG 1.4.8) - Form labels — The search form label, which was previously hidden using
display:none, has been replaced with an accessible visually-hidden technique so it remains available to assistive technologies. The email subscription form has also been given a descriptive landmark label
(WCAG 1.3.1) - Navigation landmark — The site navigation has been correctly marked up using a semantic
<nav>element to ensure screen reader users can easily locate and navigate to the main menu
(WCAG 2.4.1) - Skip link — A skip navigation link has been added as the first element on every page, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to bypass the navigation and jump directly to the main content (WCAG 2.4.1)
- Share buttons — Third-party social sharing buttons, which were previously empty anchor tags with no accessible label, have been updated with descriptive text available to assistive technologies
(WCAG 2.4.4)
Known accessibility issues
The following issues have been identified and are currently being addressed as part of ongoing improvements to the site:
- Most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software. Any new PDFs we publish will meet accessibility standards. If an older document is inaccessible to you, please contact us and we will provide
it in an alternative format as soon as possible - It is not currently possible to modify line height or text spacing via the website interface
